I know I dwell too much in the past. I’d like to say it’s because I’m guarding against making similar mistakes in the future. I suspect, however, that it’s much more than that.

I think I simply have a reflective personality. I’m a curious person, a thoughtful person, a deliberate person. I even had—if you believe in such things—a near photographic memory, an ability to recall past events with a visual precision that few of my childhood peers could match.

While the writer in me has benefited from this uncanny memory, it may not have served me so well in other areas.

I have had my share of frustrations over the years, in love, life and loot. In business it’s inevitable that you’ll have losses, reversals, unplanned expenses.

Do I get mad, pissed off, enraged at these types of events? Absolutely. I rage for a while. Rant. But the “New Me” gets it out of my system, and finally move on—or at least tries.

The “Old Me”—forget about it. I’d carry that poison around for much longer.

So, I guess I am at least progressing.
